Objectives

HEC Business Game is a "Capstone" course (6 ECTS) for third year students. It offers students the opportunity to review and synthesize the knowledge aquired during the 3 years of the BSc in Management.

The HEC Business Game offers students the possibility:

  • to practice team work in a competitive environment
  • to apply theories and concepts from their previous studies,
  • to improve their capacity to take decisions within short time frames, in an uncertain environment and facing information overload.

Contents

Working in small teams, students will

  • gather practical experiences in applying management concepts
  • experience the benefits of integrated management concepts

Students will demonstrate their ability to

  • develop a business strategy for their company
  • operationalize this strategy consistently in the different enterprise functions (marketing, sales and distribution, production, purchasing, finance and controling, ...)
  • run and manage integrated business processes
  • develop a balanced scorecards and KPIs that reflect their business strategy
  • analyze firm performance

The business game uses a simulation tool developped for pedagogical purposes by HEC Montréal: ERPSim (erpsim.hec.ca). This tool builds on a SAP ERP system.

References

An information session will be organized in automn. Students will be ask to register for the course in December. The number of seats is limited.

Please note the specific schedule: Lectures will take place in the week before the start of the semester and in the week after Easter.

Students will be evaluated during the course, based on their participation and performance in the game, a written report and presentation.

In case of failure, the evaluation of participation and performance in the game will be kept. Students will have to revise their report and presentation.
