Objectives

This course will cover an essential part of the microeconomic theory that deals with the behavior of firms on markets characterised by imperfect competition. Dropping the premise of perfect markets - the presence of numerous/price-taking firms and homogenous products - will open the door to a world of strategic interaction between competitors or sophisticated price setting monopolies. Real life economic examples will be presented in order to demonstrate the relevance of these models. Upon understanding the theoretical tools, the students will be ready to discuss a number of policy interventions that are aimed at restoring the famous market efficiency.
