Objectives

The objective of this course is to formally analyze industrial strategies. Firms' price and quantity choices as well as more complex stategies, such as collusion and differentiation, will be studied.

Market power gives rise to various business strategies. Price discrimination, the choice of a product's quality and vertical relations complete the picture of the relationships between firms and customers.

Finally, the crucial role of technology (e.g. investments in R&D) in increasing firm's market share will be studied.

Regulatory aspects will be touched upon in each chapter as we will be interested in both firms' and society's outcomes.

This class mostly consists of microeconomic theory (and a bit of game theory), but is enriched with many practical illustrations. It is suitable for both business and economics students.

The course will be held in English.
