Objectifs

The purpose of the course is to give students the chance to practice communicating economic ideas to a non-specialist audience in a simple, well structured and (hopefully) convincing fashion.

Practice will include both oral and written presentations.

Contenus

While there will be some lectures from specialists from various disciplines, the main focus of the course will be very hands on:

Students will be asked to prepare short written and oral presentations on topics of economic relevance. These presentations will then be dicussed both in the classroom (including organised debates on certain topics) and in small groups with the professor.

The local radio "Fréquence Banane" will give students access to their studio and lessons on techniques of media communication

Pré-requis

The course is open to 2nd year Master students (and potentially Ph D students).

The number of participants willbe limited to 30.

Priority will be give to the M. Sc. Econ. students

Evaluation:

There will be no final exam. Students will be evaluated on their presentations during the semester. This grade will be adjusted as a functionof their classroom participation.

Should somebody manage to fail this course, there will be a 3 hour retake exam in which the student will be asked to produce a written consultant report on a predetermined topic.
