Objectives

This course is aimed to students motivated by the creation of a start up and/or new, innovative products or services in an established company (intrapreneurship). The course is open to Students, Bachelor Level 3rd year, from ALL FACULTIES (class size limits apply).

The objective of this module is achieved if students:

  • Have acquired simple tools and models to critically analyze a commercial opportunity, validate it and to establish a coherent business model
  • Know how and when to use these tools.
  • Understand how to efficiently implement an innovative project in a company, whether small or large, facing its own challenges.
  • Are able to pitch this project successfully to buyer, decision-makers or investors.

This course, integrating many other bachelor courses is practical and highly interactive. It has a natural continuation with the "Atelier d'entreprenariat" where these competences will be applied on real companies (start up, SME or corporates)

Contents

Through various models and real examples, this course shows the students how to create and develop an innovative opportunity, from client insights, a relevant value proposition, a supportive business model to an execution plan.

Students will frequently get in the entrepreneur shoes during and after the class, in teams or individually. Teaching will be very interactive. Creative thinking, engagement, curiosity and active participation of students will be critical to the learning.

This non-conventional course, mixing french and english, will alternate experience sharing (Yves Karcher has 30 years experience in innovation and execution), case studies, classic presentations, group work, external interviews, individual and group presentations to the rest of the class who will critically judge form and content.

This class will take place wednesdays from sept 19th to Oct 31st from 13h15 to 17h at Genopode B. The duration of 4 hours allows to deep dive by combining theory with practical exercices during the same session.

The tools and models include : Value Proposition Design, Business Model Canvas, Design Thinking, Star Model (Galbraith), Doblin Model, "pitches"

Pre-requisites

  • read, understand and speak business english and french
  • motivation for entrepreneurship
  • willingness to engage in the course
  • be ready to collaborate in team and talk in public
  • ability to self-organize and coordinate teamwork. Course structure will not be strict.
  • Basic financial notions: Balance Sheet, P&L, Budgeting.
