The aim of the coroporate sustainability course is to help students:

  1. evaluate varying concepts and narratives surrounding CS
  2. understand some of the theoretical frameworks
  3. understand how to implement and lead CS
  4. recognize barriers to action, tensions and dilemmas
  5. identify possible solutions for overcoming them.

The course will be highly interactive and class sessions will include a mixture of debates, group work, lectures and discussions with guest speakers.

Some of the main questions we will explore are:

  • What is CS? What is CSR?
  • Why take action for sustainability?
  • What are the inherent tensions and dilemmas in implementing CS initiatives?
  • Can employees, managers and executives overcome those tensions?
  • How can a business engage in game-changing innovation for sustainability?
  • What makes leadership for sustainability different?

A collection of case studies, articles and videos for the semester will be provided in the first session.

Please note that for pedagogical reasons the registration for this class will be limited. It is extremely important to attend the first session of the course on Tuesday 18 September.
